Part II - 7 - Path of Hidden Knowledge 1

One day he begins to wonder why he is so poor and unhappy. By chance (?), he comes across an old friend who is doing very well in life. During the conversation his friend gives him a few tips on spiritual success principles. He doesn’t see much of anything in them, but since his friend seemed so peaceful and happy, he decides to look at these principles. As he wrestles with the principles he begins to see that his whole life has been one of slavery and machine-like actions. He becomes depressed. But with his friend’s encouragement he continues to study the spiritual principles. After some time of difficult confrontation with himself, he begins to experience spiritual freedom. The more he realizes, sees and feels what a slave he is/was to chains of causation, the more personal freedom he achieves. Strange? Keep on studying!

His case was an easy one. But there are people that are so deeply asleep that only a shock can wake them up. These wake-up shocks manifest sometimes as phobias, illogical thoughts, disease, and neuroses. A spiritual teacher of the past, Georges Gurdjief, spoke some about these shocks.  Most "psychological problems" that some evolved people have, are not illnesses.  They are very little known spiritual phenomena in the process of waking up.  The ancients use to call it, the Threshhold.  Terror.  It is in fact your present reaction to the spectre you have created out of yourself, in the past of your present life and/or your past lives.  But the medicos and psychiatrists - most of whom are also asleep - call it "mental Illness," and give you little blue and red pills to take, in order to prevent you from having to look at the problem; not have to "look" at what is - which is the false self you created.  If you can't look at the problem, you can't fix it. I know what I'm talking about because I went through it.

Taking those pretty little colored pills - unless it's an emergency - is the worst thing you can do for yourself; for then, you will never have the courage to look at what you have made of yourself with a straight head.  I'm proud to say that I never took any "psychological" medicine ever.  And I made it through; for I, though terrified, on the night of a transformation, reasoned: "It's death or freedom."  Afterwards, the transformed self becomes an Overself - a friend, mentor, and buddy.

But scientific proof never prevented people from killing each other. On the contrary, though many good things have been given to us by science, the proofs of science have contributed to the creation of evil means of destruction and much that isn’t necessary at all.  What I am trying to convey to you here is that – providing you live a decent life – what you believe, what you feel intuitively, and what works for you is what is important regardless of what the authorities of the scientific and religious worlds say to you.  The primary function of scjence should be to prove spiritual law; the other functions are child's play.

We sometimes doubt ourselves and our abilities simply because we are surrounded by theories of life that are founded on lies. In fact, I have discovered, that 90% of our present life are all lies. Only one person in 10,000 is really interested in bettering himself by unravelling these lies and discovering his spiritual heritage. The other 9, 999 believe and engage only in what the trends of society influence them to believe. The majority of Men/Women do not direct their lives. Things simply “happen” to these people. They are totally controlled by chains of causation. To strengthen this observation I am using below a quote from, The Vision of Ayn Rand by the great philosopher, Dr. Nathaniel Branden:

“It is true that most men do not choose their philosophical convictions consciously, by a logical process of thought, by gathering evidence, judging it, and drawing rational conclusions. They get their philosophical beliefs, for the most part, from the culture in which they live – that is, from the kind of ideas, values, customs, prejudices, catchphrases, or traditions which are prevalent around them and which they hear most often. They accept their ideas not by thinking, but by default, by osmosis from the cultural atmosphere. They cannot judge whether these ideas are true or false, right or wrong. They do not ask where these ideas come from. They do not inquire about the origin or the originators of the doctrines to which they surrender the job of directing their lives.”
